A
new study suggested that waiting a few minutes after birth before
cutting the umbilical cord nourishing the baby may have benefits over a
piece immediately after birth.
The study of Canada - which compared the results of a number of previous studies have been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association - that a delay in cutting the umbilical cord for at least two minutes after birth results in high blood count and iron levels in the newborn.
But experts who did not participate in the new study differed over the feasibility of adopting the new approach, but they agreed on the need for more research in this area before the changes advise the process.
Says Dr. Saleh Yassin, head of department of gynecology and obstetrics at the University of Miami: "So far, this study does not carry any suggestion of a practical and even the authors themselves are advised to study the need for more research."
In the eyes of Dr. Cheryl Kypriana from the University of Texas, "The study implies that the baby has the ability to store iron well so it helps to delay cutting the umbilical cord not suffering from anemia and therefore it may be important to know that for doctors."
"I personally believe that doctors may find a lot of new things if they designed a new study broader."
